Keepers of the name. Keepers of the story.

Who we are

The Caribana Arts Group is the founding organization of Caribana. We descend from the Caribbean Cultural Committee, incorporated on July 28, 1967 by West Indian volunteers who pledged unpaid, non-political service to share Caribbean culture with Canada.

What we believe

  • Carnival is an emancipation story before it is a party.
  • Caribana was a gift, not a product. That spirit is our standard.
  • Elders are the archive. If we don't record them now, their stories are lost.
  • Mas is art. The people who make it deserve credit by name.

The Caribana name

Caribana® is a registered trademark of the Caribana Arts Group. We protect the name so that it keeps its meaning and stays connected to the community that created it. For permission to use the name, contact us.
